Selection of materials for bronzing solution filtering in the production of bronzed bead wire

Abstract
In the production of wire for tire bead rings, a high-performance chemical method of applying bronze coating is widely used, which consists of briefly immersing steel wire in a solution based on bivalent tin and copper sulfates in the presence of sulfuric acid. The disadvantage of using such solutions is the oxidation of tin to tetravalent tin, followed by hydrolysis and formation of a stable dispersion of metastannic acid. Excess of metastannic acid affects stability characteristics of bronzing solution and bronze coating of the wire, ultimately increasing production cost, due to necessity to stop industrial units producing bronzecoated bead wire for cleaning and replacement of the solution. An effective method for cleaning bronzing process solutions from the dispersion of metastannic acid is filtration. Within the framework of this study, based on experimental data on the sizes of dispersed particles and taking into account characteristics of the filter press, an optimal import-substituting material for filter cloth was selected. Use of mentioned material has made it possible to reduce production costs by increasing service life of the bronzing solution until complete replacement.
